Having come from refugee camps in Thailand and Uganda, they’ve never really been in the snow before. The expense, as well, is another factor that can keep these youth from getting to learn snow sports. The adventure was well-planned and provided everything they needed so they would be able to have a good time…patient volunteers, proper gear, and other kids to enjoy their time with.
There were many reasons I felt this was a successful experience for the boys. First, they got to learn something new, an experience that gave them an understanding of a common American experience. Second, they were coached by some amazing people. I really enjoyed watching them interact with the police officers. They need to know that the police officers are real people who care; you provided that opportunity. Finally, they were challenged to do something new. These kids’ lives are full of challenges. It was encouraging to have them experience and be successful at a challenge that was also fun.
Thanks again for allowing us to partner with you. I hope we can do it again next year.
