Katelyn was born and raised in Walla Walla with three older siblings, a brother and two sisters. She is currently a senior studying Mechanical Engineering at Walla Walla University. She has worked internships with the US Army Corp of Engineers and will be graduating in the Spring of 2021. Her interest in skiing began when approached by fellow church members inquiring if she had ever considered skiing, Ever the adventurous one, she was immediately intrigued, while her mother wasn’t quite so sure. After here first run down the Triple Nickel Bowl at Bluewood she said, “my face hurts!” When asked why, “from smiling SO much”, she responded. Katelyn’s mom and good friend, Tobi, that accompanied her on her first day were just amaze
d at her ability and courage. Katelyn reports that when she is skiing the feeling is like she imagines flying. Katelyn’s first-time skiing was March 8, 2020 with a return scheduled for March 15, 2020. The second date was pre-empted by the closing of skiing on March 14, 2020 as the current pandemic was declared. Katelyn returned to ski on February 13, 2021, a totally epic powder day at Bluewood. She enjoyed taking face shots of powder. After making first tracks through fresh powder, Katelyn emerged with a huge smile and what looked like angel dust on her eyebrow and said breathless, “WOW!” Gliding through 10” of untouched untracked snow is like floating on clouds (flying?). Sometimes her laughter was so intense it would sound like she couldn’t breathe. She said it “takes my breath away”. How much fun is that?!
